About the Role

RGL is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Estimator to join our growing team in Ower, Romsey. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in construction or engineering environments who enjoys analysing project requirements, preparing accurate quotations, and supporting business growth through successful tender submissions.

Working closely with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams, you will play a key role in preparing competitive cost estimates and commercial documentation while ensuring all information is accurately maintained within our CRM system.

As this is a specialist role within our industry, comprehensive training and support will be provided. We are looking for someone with a flexible and proactive approach who is eager to develop their expertise and gain a thorough understanding of our services and client requirements.

This is an office based role and therefore the selected candidate will be expected to work from our offices in Romsey, Hampshire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and quantify project requirements through site visits, surveys, client liaison, and drawing take-offs.

  • Identify subcontractor requirements and obtain competitive quotations.

  • Prepare accurate quotations and commercial documentation in line with company procedures.

  • Attend pre-contract meetings as required.

  • Research materials, equipment, and associated costs for project delivery.

  • Prepare tender documentation and support bid submissions.

  • Maintain and update the CRM system with accurate project information.

  • Conduct follow-up calls with prospective clients after proposals have been submitted.

  • Maintain and update estimating tools and cost databases.

  • Organise and maintain estimate files, tender documents, and historical project data.

  • Review drawings, specifications, and project documentation to understand project scope.

  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and compare pricing.

  • Prepare spreadsheets, tender summaries, and reports for management review.

  • Track and manage Requests for Quotations (RFQs) to ensure timely responses.

  • Support the coordination and submission of tender documentation.

  • Attend site visits and operational locations when required.

  • Maintain confidentiality and data integrity throughout all estimating activities.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in an estimating or similar role within a construction or engineering environment.

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Experience carrying out site surveys.

  • The ability to interpret client requirements and prepare accurate cost estimates and supporting documentation.

  • A good understanding of construction processes and project delivery.

  • The ability to read and interpret construction drawings and engineering plans.

  • Strong organisational skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Experience using CRM systems is advantageous however training will be provided.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.


Additional Information

This role requires occasional travel to operational sites to gain a better understanding of project requirements and client needs and therefore a full UK driving licence is essential.

While standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00, flexibility to work outside these hours may occasionally be required to support operational requirements.
