Pioneers in water jetting

Rentajet Ltd was founded in 1984 by John Twigg as a pump rental company. In 1994, John and his son Chris identified an opportunity in the market and established a contracting division. This was the start that led to the modern-day "Rentajet Group Limited" (RGL) as it is today.

Since these humble beginnings, RGL has evolved into one of the leading water jetting companies in the UK, offering its services to various industrial sectors both at home in the UK and internationally.

From day one, RGL have been (and continue to be) active members of the Water Jetting Association (WJA) and maintain a place on the Technical Committee promoting innovation and safety within the industry.

Today, RGL is under the ownership and management of three Directors: Chris Twigg, Ian Clarke, and Jamie Ings, all of whom are actively involved in the daily operations and growth of the company.

RGL’s Head Office and Workshop facility is on the south coast of England but the company has links in London and Manchester, allowing for prompt responses to enquiries from across the country.

How it all began

A chance meeting between our founder John Twigg, and Bernard Hart, outside a small workshop in Salisbury, marked the start of a long friendship, and formative years for the Water Jetting industry.

During the 1970s, water jetting technology evolved rapidly. British contractors were introducing new equipment from the USA, and pumps were becoming more and more powerful.

With a rising interest in this new technology, Bernard went on to develop hundreds of water jetting units, accessories, and innovative nozzles during his tenure at Harben Systems. John went on to be the Sales Director, selling the product all over the Globe.

These events would eventually lead John to form his own company with George Gabb, Rentajet (now known as RGL) in 1984 as a sales and rental business for high pressure water jetting equipment.

“Back then the world didn’t believe what a high-pressure jet of water could do. We would demonstrate the removal of rust, hardened resin, and barnacles on ship hulls. When we showed what our systems could do, even down to removing specific paint layers on steel, we couldn’t sell them fast enough.”

Water Jetting Safety

As pioneers of Ultra High Pressure (UHP) water jetting in the UK, RGL have always played an active role in developing safety standards in line with evolving water jet technology. The founder of RGL represented the industry as president of the Water Jetting Association and we continue to have a representative on their technical committee.

In cooperation with other jetting companies and the WJA, the industry now has a code of practice which sets out “best practice” and clarifies go and no-go areas of safety.

All our site teams are WJA certified which we take as a pre-requisite qualification prior to granting permission to carry out jetting works. Furthermore, all the contracts we work on are covered by specific risk assessments and method statements so any risks can be identified and mitigated accordingly.

Keeping everyone safe is on the top of our list of our guiding principles as well as being at the forefront of our minds in whatever we do.
