Water jetting is a highly effective, non-destructive method of cleaning heat exchangers and condenser tube bundles that have become blocked or fouled with scale or product.

RGL’s portable rotary, rigid and flexible UHP lancing systems enable us to remove blockages from previously uncleanable bundles. The system is capable of tackling vertical, horizontal, straight or U-bend bundles with tubes as small as 10mm in diameter.

Semi-automated lancing is safer, very efficient and faster than traditional methods, therefore offering considerable cost savings.

Cleaning can be undertaken in situ at a contractor’s premises, or tube bundles may be removed to be cleaned at RGL’s premises – either option is available on demand or as part of a regular maintenance schedule.

  • Tube heat exchangers are fragile and expensive – high pressure water is a non-destructive cleaning method which won’t damage the wall of the tube.
  • Cleans the tube back to its original surface and restores both flow capacity and heat transfer to ensure optimum efficiency is regained.
  • Our systems are pneumatically powered and thus are safe for use in hazardous atmospheres. They are remote controlled and enable the operator to stand at a safe distance. This means the hazard of working in close proximity to high pressure components/water jets and contaminants is removed.
  • Safe containment of waste by-products created by the cleaning process may sometimes be incorporated. This utilizes a vacuum recovery system.
  • Tube cleaning with UHP water jet avoids the risks associated with using toxic/dangerous chemicals such as caustic acid. This method is especially beneficial for tube cleaning in the food industry.

Removal of limescale, hydro-carbon products, sulphur, chemicals, dairy products for petro-chemical, oil and gas, chemical and food manufacturers.

Specialist applications using water jets for tube cleaning:

  • Heater bundle descaling in mineral ore refineries.
  • Condenser tube bundles on nuclear submarines.
  • Removal of refractory lining material from heat exchanger tube plate face in power stations.
  • Limescale removal in heat exchangers used for water softening process for drinking water supply.
  • Descaling of oilfield tubulars contaminated with NORM (normally occurring radiation).
  • Removal of baked on, caramalised milk deposits on vertical evaporators.
  • Pre –clean site survey.
  • In-house provision of scaffolding at tube face for high level cleaning.
  • In-house mechanical isolation and bonnet removal.
  • Waste water and debris containment system to ensure water is vacuum recovered or pumped to containment point for safe disposal.
  • Cleaning can take place in situ or once removed, can be taken to a cleaning bay facility.
  • Selection of appropriate technique, nozzles and water pressure to remove blockages.
  • Techniques/methods include:
    • Powered rotating rigid lance system where the bundle is completely blocked.
    • Automatic shell side cleaning for removal of product blockage between the tubes.
    • Multi-lance systems for cleaning large quantities of tubes in a short space of time.
    • Hydraulically powered rollers for bundle rotation to achieve optimum results (only for pulled bundles removed to cleaning bay).
  • Post clean inspection, testing and repair (if required).
