UHP Water Abrasive
Jet Cold Cutting
“There is no product known to man that cannot be cut with UHP (Ultra High Pressure) Water
Abrasive Jet Cutting technology.”
The hydro-abrasive water stream, travelling at twice the speed of sound, will cut any substance without
heat or spark.
We provide a number of on-site cold water jet cutting solutions to suit your situation including our
own RGL developed Jetnife™ system which is remote controlled and can cut out complex shapes with
accuracy thus gaining access for maintenance, removal, repair or inspection.
Cutting in Hazardous Environments
If your requirement is to cut without heat or sparks then the Jetnife™ UHP Hydro Abrasive Jet Cutting
system almost certainly offers an answer to your cutting challenge. The cutting heads are hydraulically
driven and the operator stands at a safe distance controlling the direction and speed of movement from
a remote console. Our operatives and equipment have successfully worked in explosive atmospheres,
underwater and in radioactive environments.
Environmental features of Abrasive Water Jet Cutting
An inert crushed rock has been selected as our cutting abrasive. This means we can safely
work in marine environments without the risk of harming wildlife or polluting the water.
Plus if required the water can be captured and disposed of in safe manner.
Safety features of Abrasive Water Jet Cutting
Abrasive jet cutting produces no heat this being essential in certain situations.
Remote control enbles the operator to stand at a safe distance.
The accurate cutting performance and controlling the speed of the cut can also be an advantage.
Materials we have successfully cut;
Steel, Concrete, Glass, Refractory Lining, Bronze Alloy, Stone, Cast Iron, Ceramic,
Wood, Cobalt and Kevlar.
Common Applications:
Cutting into Tanks and Vessels
We are able to safely cut into Tanks and Vessels that contain explosive atmospheres. We have
achieved success in some very challenging situations;
- Catalyst Regeneration Reactor Head removal in Oil Refineries
- Underwater Cutting in Radioactive Environments
- Jet Fuel Lines at Airports
- Gas Storage Cylinders
Tank Floors
Large storage tanks often require floors to be removed if they are leaking or badly corroded. Our twin
nozzle cutting head will cut hundreds of metres of steel floor plate in a single shift. We are able to cut
tank floors using UHP Water Jets without causing damage to the Oil Sand sub-base which is essential on
floating roof tanks where a stable sub-base is required to bear the roof weight.
Our cold cutting system eliminates risk of igniting hydrocarbons that may be trapped underneath
the Tank Floor. Horizontal circumferential cuts can be made on the side sheets of the tank to separate
them from the floor.
Pipe Cutting
We have successfully cut pipes with wall thickness of up to 150mm. Scrap cuts are achieved in minutes.
A precision cutting service is available where weld preps or angled cuts are required for reconnections
with minimal loss of the original material.
Pile Cutting
Internal Cutting of Steel Piles: Our remote control internal pile cutting system enables us to cut
off piles below ground. This avoids the need for costly underwater excavations around the circumference
of the pile. We are even able to perform these types of cuts underwater - below the bed level.
Reinforced Concrete Piles: We have successfully cut off steel reinforced concrete piles up to 2m in
diameter. A semi automatic cutting track system is placed around the pile and lowered into position to the
required cut off point and then hydraulically clamped.
The cutting head makes a series of rotations until the pile is severed and can be lifted away.
Underwater Cutting
Our system has been developed to work successfully under water. The speed and accuracy are not
significantly affected due to the high pressures involved. More
