Concrete Hydrodemolition
Hydrodemolition is the term used for the technique of cutting and removing concrete from a
structure by the use of a High Pressure (HP) or Ultra High Pressure (UHP) water jet.
This is a simple definition for what has now become a specialised sector of the Water Jetting
industry of which RGL are one of the acknowledged leaders.
We have the experience, skill, ingenuity, team and equipment to provide you with a
cost effective solution for all your Hydrodemolition needs.
Hydrodemolition is now recognised by structural engineers and consultants as the safest,
most effective, vibration free method of concrete removal. The remaining structure suffers
no cracking and reinforcing steel is left undamaged and the remaining concrete
retains its original integrity.
Technical Advantages
- Does not cause micro cracks in the structure.
- Does not damage reinforcing steel or cause loosening within the structure.
- Reinforcing steel is cleaned by the action of the HP water.
- Superior surface is created for bond with new concrete or coating in comparison with conventional methods.
- Water Jetting removes chlorides and other non visible contamination.
- Selective removal is only achieved by using Hydrodemolition, ensuring all damaged concrete is removed whilst sound material remains.
Safety Benefits
- Removes the potential for injury to operators associated with
Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS).
Environmental Benefits
- Water can be captured and so avoid contamination.
- Dust pollution is eliminated.
- Noise caused by resonance created by percussive tools is eliminated.
Financial Benefits
- Hydrodemolition is often faster than conventional jack hammering thus
resulting in shorter possession times and reduced traffic disruption on structures
such as bridges, roads, airports and railways.
- Hydrodemolition can offer financial savings compared to the alternatives.
Equipment Specifications
Hydrodemolition can be undertaken using a number of different methods and types of equipment.
Hand Held Safety Guns for precision cutting, Gimbal Mounted Lances and Computer
Controlled Robots for mass removal. HP water is provided by trailer or truck mounted pumps
with an output range from 20 litres to 250 litres per minute and pressures up to 3000 bar. Our
portable pump units have either diesel engines or electric motors.
We have found that certain jobs require a combination of this equipment to obtain
maximum efficiency, reducing time and cost. Note in London there can be charges for entering
the Congestion Zone with certain vehicle mounted equipment.
We can operate 7 days a week 24 hours a day throughout the UK.
