UHP Hydroblasting of Steel Structures, Gas Holders and Oil Storage Tanks
Our dust free blasting systems provide a cost effective alternative to conventional dry abrasive blasting.
The applications for this technology are almost limitless with just a few examples of environments we have
successfully worked on in the past listed below:
- Bridges
- Ships
- Tidal Defences and other Marine Structures
- Towers
- Storage Tanks and vessels
- Cranes
- Pipes Lines
Probably one of the most significant benefits of water blasting is that once water blasted at
Ultra High Pressure the surface is free from Non Visible Contamination (Chlorides, salts of Ferrous Oxide
and Ferrous Chloride). This chemical free surface offers perfect condition on which to apply the chosen
corrosion protection coating. Having a chemically clean surface means that any coating or lining material
will bond more effectively and failure frequency is dramatically reduced.
Once the original coating and corrosion have been removed. Surface profile can be created or improved
with the use of our Hydro Abrasive Blast Head. Hydro Abrasive Blasting is a dust free method of applying
profile to a steel surface.
For High Level or inaccessible structures that prove difficult or costly to scaffold, our
UHP “Limpet Crawler” is ideal. The “Limpet Crawler” contains and removes waste water coatings and corrosion
from the work face under powerful vacuum. Collected waste can be filtered to separate debris and clean the water
for disposal or in some cases to be re-used.
Case Histories:
- Thames Barrier – Volker Stevin - London
- Barking Barrier – Birse Civils – London
- Oil Storage Tanks - Esso Petroleum – Fawley Refinery
- Aircraft Carrier Flight Deck - VT Services - Portsmouth Naval Base
- Concrete Bridge Deck – Morgan Vinci JV - Upper Forth Crossing
- Rail Bridges on numerous sites
- Submarines and other marine vessels
UHP Water Jets prepare steel surfaces to ISO 8501-4 standards and Wa2½ surface finish is easily achieved.
RGL have extensive experience in the reapplication of coatings in maintenance and repair situations.
We are active members of the Institute of Corrosion and the Water Jetting Association ensuring we keep up to
date with the latest developments and issues involving surface preparation, safe working practices and
health and safety legislation.
